sovay: (Jeff Hartnett)
My street has lost its cherry trees! Not the weeping cherry, but the pair of regular cherries in the next yard over that I documented so joyously last spring and the spring before. I have no idea what happened. The ground is blackened and broken and bare; all the little undergrowth that used to cluster around the lichen-saddled trunks and branches is gone. There was a dispirited clump of something that might be the daffodils when it's not climate-raddled late winter and some weeds left behind chain-link, like tame brownfields. I loved those trees. I had been looking forward to their blossoms this spring. It had become a ritual and something that made me feel better about the world. I will still visit their weeping neighbor, but damn. If it had to do with property flipping, may all their investments fail.

I have been out of commission for most of this week thanks to pain and other stressors, so have some links.

It will not be a full twenty-four hours for reasons of unavoidable capitalism, but [personal profile] spatch and I are in the process of programming ourselves this weekend's Black Cat 'Thon 2022. We have bailed on numerous portions of the official 'Thon in the past. It should be a good time.
