Last night, for the first time in months or perhaps years, I had a dream that I wanted to stay inside of. I dreamed that I was traveling to western Massachusetts on a train called the Alewife Lake Limited with a not quite a circus, not quite a carnival, with whom I was singing. It was full of performances in small towns that may or may not exist and was somewhat Depression-era in atmosphere despite contemporary levels of technology and social media, comfortingly rather than unsettlingly Bradburyesque. My mother was present at several shows. It took waking up for me to realize that several of the animals traveling with the troupe were not mythical, but probably weren't exactly real.

Despite this morning's snow squall, the lilac tree off our back deck is doing its best to flower. I took a picture of it this afternoon.

In the evening I had visual contact with [personal profile] selkie for the first time in six months, was serenaded with "Stronger Than You" by my godchild who had just marathoned all of Steven Universe including Future in four weeks and three days, and spontaneously attempted reference costuming for 1941 AU St. Clair, somewhat impeded by the absence of cardigans in the house but immeasurably aided by a vest with real pockets. Actual reference photos will have to wait for sunlight, but I rather like how this one of me looking at an out-of-shot pocket watch came out.

I am designed for Zoom like leafy sea dragons are designed for velocipedes, but it's really nice to be able to see the faces of the people I love. I should like to do it safely in person one day.
