And a freight train running through the middle of my head
Last night, for the first time in months or perhaps years, I had a dream that I wanted to stay inside of. I dreamed that I was traveling to western Massachusetts on a train called the Alewife Lake Limited with a not quite a circus, not quite a carnival, with whom I was singing. It was full of performances in small towns that may or may not exist and was somewhat Depression-era in atmosphere despite contemporary levels of technology and social media, comfortingly rather than unsettlingly Bradburyesque. My mother was present at several shows. It took waking up for me to realize that several of the animals traveling with the troupe were not mythical, but probably weren't exactly real.
Despite this morning's snow squall, the lilac tree off our back deck is doing its best to flower. I took a picture of it this afternoon.

In the evening I had visual contact with
selkie for the first time in six months, was serenaded with "Stronger Than You" by my godchild who had just marathoned all of Steven Universe including Future in four weeks and three days, and spontaneously attempted reference costuming for 1941 AU St. Clair, somewhat impeded by the absence of cardigans in the house but immeasurably aided by a vest with real pockets. Actual reference photos will have to wait for sunlight, but I rather like how this one of me looking at an out-of-shot pocket watch came out.

I am designed for Zoom like leafy sea dragons are designed for velocipedes, but it's really nice to be able to see the faces of the people I love. I should like to do it safely in person one day.

Until then there are always short stories. Thank you for your service in proving St. Clair can have their aesthetic without looking like a daffy professor or a complete knob.

Seriously. In person or bust (and by "bust" I mean "keep on Zooming, damn it"). I hope we may.
Until then there are always short stories.
Which I am fervently glad of.

Truly, I didn't expect them to, but you are always welcome. I've got some sandy grey tweed trousers I'm going to experiment with when there's sun.

Thank you!
(I have three vests now and I am fond of all of them. That does not mean, when it is safe to shop once again, that I am not still looking for more.)

I wish I had one! We struck out on that front as badly as the cardigans.

(also ooh bookshelves)

Thank you! The original character exists in the 1820's, but also in a WWII AU version that I need a better jacket for.
(also ooh bookshelves)
With a very small percentage of my books! The majority of my library is still in storage. Someday, when we have an apartment with room for all our mutual books, it will not be. But right now, during a pandemic, storage it is.

(I'm sorry, what were you saying?)

Thank you! I'm very fond of them myself. Someday they will even represent my entire collection.

An essential part of a house!
(In an ideal apartment, there are bookshelves in every room, but we have not lived in an ideal apartment for some time now.)

And I love both photos, for different reasons.

I really enjoyed it!

Thank you!
I am missing the ability to visit the Arboretum in Jamaica Plain, which has an annual, official, currently canceled Lilac Sunday, so I'm very glad that some just exist where I can see them without trekking across Boston.
you do not need this service

Re: you do not need this service
Yeah, I think I'm good.
(I had no idea bookshelves were an obligatory backdrop! I can't believe I'm ahead of the Zoom curve on something.)

Thank you! I'm really happy to have lilac close at hand.
Ours are somewhat behind yours; a few on south- or west-facing sidewalks have opened a flower or two, but then it got cold, almost freezing at night, so they are waiting around until the weather decides to be civilized again.
I can't blame them. Today was actually beautifully sunny and almost warm, but I was fully prepared for it to be bucketing down ice water, just based on the last few days.

I like this shot of you.

I've seen the entire original series, the film, and about half of the epilogue series Future, and I like it very much!
I like this shot of you.
Thank you.
I love the sea dragon velocipede doodle.
