Autolycus chirped at me as I was putting my boots on.
spatch said he was asking where I was going. I told him I was going to see my mother: the person who carried me in her mouth when I was a kitten and groomed me all over and taught me to be a cat. That seemed to satisfy him; he made a more extensive mrrrrp and clicked away with all his little claws across the floor. Rob and I took buses out to Arlington to meet my mother; we had variously fried things at Fresh Pond Seafood and then malteds from the Abbotts Frozen Custard that recently opened in Arlington Center. I gave her a copy of Maida Heatter's Happiness Is Baking: Favorite Desserts from the Queen of Cake (2019) with a bookmark of black and white cats curled up sleeping to mark the East 62nd Street Lemon Cake, a variant of which has been my family's signature cake for years. I'm sure Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) contained an inappropriate amount of father issues for Mother's Day, but we still enjoyed it.
