Thanks to late-night buses, we have just returned from the Coolidge's midnight showing of Big Trouble in Little China (1986). I hadn't seen it. All I knew going in was that [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel really thought I'd like it. (And the poster, which looked absolutely cult.)

Jack Burton thinks he's an action hero. Jack Burton thinks he's an action hero so hard.

Wang Chi is just awesome.

I would like to make a post with some thoughtful content, but I don't feel I have enough time to think. Yesterday I spent most of my time on the phone with various financial entities and that includes the afternoon spent with [livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks and B. before [livejournal.com profile] gaudior got home and we watched three more episodes of Hannibal with a pizza break in between. That was great, and the late-night movie was great, but still. Job research continues apace. I wish I felt I was sleeping.

Tonight [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel and I are going to the Somerville for a 35mm print of A Thousand Clowns (1965), about which we know nothing except that Jason Robards and Barbara Harris are in it and David the projectionist has been preaching it for months. On those facts alone, it should be worth the expedition. [edit] HELL YES.

Until we return, have some new songs I've been playing a lot recently.

Against Me!, "Dead Friends"

Now she waits for you to haunt her
She sleeps with your ghost all night in bed

Captain Beefheart, "Hard Workin' Man"

I'm a hard-work drivin' man
Six foot solid from the ground

The Divine Comedy, "Assume the Perpendicular"

We don't want to drink the cider
We don't want to walk for miles
We just want to go to a stately home
Built in the Georgian style

Marissa Nadler, "Was It a Dream"

Was it a dream? Or something sinister?

The Shondes, "Let's Go (Lomir Gayn)"

Shake me and make me remember
My sharp tongue and sharp eyes
These are the things that keep me alive
