China's in the heart, Jack

Thanks to late-night buses, we have just returned from the Coolidge's midnight showing of Big Trouble in Little China (1986). I hadn't seen it. All I knew going in was that [livejournal.com profile] derspatchel really thought I'd like it. (And the poster, which looked absolutely cult.)

Jack Burton thinks he's an action hero. Jack Burton thinks he's an action hero so hard.

Wang Chi is just awesome.

A few years ago, there was an April Fool's hoax about a "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - 1988" comic. (http://www.geeksofdoom.com/2010/04/01/lol-league-of-extraordinary-gentlemen-america-1988) Jack Burton was one of the team. Sadly, due to copyright, this comic will never come to pass, but there is at least one fanfic for it.</a? (http://archiveofourown.org/works/141379)

And Lo Pan is best villain. *makes rock-em-sock-em robots gestures against fellow sorcerer*

I'm glad you have discovered the delight that is Big Trouble in Little China.

That movie is a favorite of mine, wonderfully self-aware in a way Jack Burton isn't.
