It was snowing this morning, the first snow of the year. We watched it spiral lightly out of the dawn-blue overcast. It didn't seem to be sticking, but it was beautiful, and made the world look like something else for a little while.
whoops, and it seems the image is massive--it didn't look that big in the preview! I won't mind if you delete the thread if it's breaking the page--I can try again posting smaller!
Any time, but I believe this storm is what happens when the dog-end of a hurricane traveling up the coast meets that thing where the Rockies spin off blasts of winter and they have a really icy baby.
That makes me feel better, actually. Child won a prize for Most Realistic Costume. Their costume for today was their goalie gear. There were no prizes for the prizes. If you need me, I'll be in the General Government until it's time to make dinner.
A friend called this morning and insisted on a FaceTime call, though I warned said person I was wearing a tank top and was sweaty and gross from trundling my flab on the exercise bike==but when I agreed to it, surprise! Their camera showed me FALLING SNOW, so very beautiful, especially to my parched, sun-and-smoke dried eyes, as I wipe lavender on the latest crop of mosquito bites.
The streets are slushy now, but it's stayed in the trees.

I'm so glad your friend did that! (Smoke and mosquitos should be contended with separately; simultaneously is cheating.)
Oh, pretty! The first snow is always so lovely, especially when there are still leaves on the trees - I love that look of the green covering up the white. (Is this unusually early where you are? It wouldn't be early in Alaska, but I don't remember getting snow in Illinois until late Nov. or Dec.)

I feel this was an exceptionally attractive instance.

I don't know anymore! In the New England I grew up in, it would be toward the earlier end of the range, but not surprising (as opposed to early October, which would definitely have been jumping the gun), but now that we have climate change? I have no clue.
I had an outdoor volunteer shift yesterday morning, so I did not appreciate the falling snow quite as much as I would have if I had had more of an indoors option, but walking home from work at the end of the day with the lights shining off the snowy branches and arriving to a hot shower and hot soup truly did make everything worth it.

I am glad! That is a very winter ending to a day, and also sounds a bit like a Hanukkah story.

Oh, that's lovely: it looks like it's made out of paper and glass.
(It's still flurrying in the streets here. I had missed on the memo on GOOD MORNING SNOW!)

You're welcome! The view from my office window contains some lovely frosted telephone wires, but also a quantity of slush.

Oh, beautiful. It looks like the tree has hold of them.

It looks fine to me! It's not bleeding off the edges of the screen or anything. I still think the tree looks like it should be singing a chantey.

I do worry about the trees, though...

And yeah--me too re: trees. At least it's not as bad as the October storm in 2011. This one I feel like I can enjoy the prettiness.

I feel I only this year realized what a photogenic tree we have in the back yard.

Thank you! It is definitely more satisfying than the technical dusting.

We're in a drought, so even frozen water is welcome.

Beautiful, especially if you don't have to shovel it.

Which we don't!

Thank you! (I hope you get the chance. It is very strange for me to imagine never having seen snow falling.)

Much of it has melted off by today, but it still looks autumnally wintry!
