With your prey

M. John Harrison recommends A.S. Byatt's Ragnarok (2011), even if it isn't really a novel.

Someone whom I do not know, but of whom I approve, has organized the Big Gay Hamlet Ficathon. Go forth and deCard.

[livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks, I love you.

Oh, excellent! I've been hoping that Byatt would do justice to the myth.

...But what mildly appals me is the excuse that Hamlet's Father is a reprint – the subtext being '… and no one complained about the other editions'

Oh, thank goodness someone is saying this. Schafer's reasoning came across as rather thin to me...

Yeah. *sigh*

I love your icon, by the way. What is it?

I've never had the urge to fanfic after that one disastrous attempt to do Transformers fic in the style of the Coen brothers, but...

Maybe I'll just fix* SSS&S and sell it. Maybe I'll sub it to that silly magazine he runs first.

*And by fix I mean buttsex.**

**Probably not, but Ruibe is getting a lover.

The Byatt sounds interesting, and I'm glad it sounds she's done a good job with it. My mother likes her--I might get her a copy for her birthday or the like.

Excellent. I heartily approve, and wish I were better able to participate, but there aren't enough women* and any attempt on my part at writing male slash always comes out as too much of a parody to be worth anything.

*Gertrude/Ophelia? Too much like a female version of Card's paederastic King Hamlet/Horatio, that. And I don't think gender-flipping everyone so Hamletta and Horatia can have a massively anachronistic schoolgirl romance and maybe a complicated flirtation with the handsome Ophelion is exactly on, either.

Given that R.H. Ash wrote a verse version of Ragnarok, the whole thing seems weirdly meta.

But I should have a look.
