Words fall through me and always fool me
Of course we have three inches of snow on the ground and gathering. Happy April to you, too, Boreas.
You have no idea how difficult it is not to tell someone who has just expressed a wistful desire to give up philosophy and run a fruit stand in Paris that they are giving you flashbacks to Wittgenstein, even when under the circumstances it would clearly be unkind.

What's the right thing to say to the person who dreams about giving up philosophy and running a fruit stand?

I think I suggested grapefruit.
from fruit stand to grapefruit
(no grapefruit icon. Have a peach)

It really is. Hélas, mostly I suggested it because I like grapefruit!

So curious, SO curious, not gonna ask for details, that would be rude, not gonna...
I sometimes have a wistful desire to give up work and live in a hollow tree, become amphibious and swim every day. I think your friend's wistful desire is a lot easier to achieve.

(It's not someone you know.)

I don't know: that sounds pretty good to me.
Who or what is your icon?
"When my cue comes, call me and I will answer."
My icon is Bottom from A Midsummer Night's Dream, as played by Kevin Kline in that version that came out in the 1990s and had a half-naked Rupert Everett as Oberon and Michelle Pfeiffer as Titania. I was addicted to that one and saw it like five times in the theaters. I want to watch it again soon, now that I'm thinking of it.

Let me know how it holds up. My definitive Bottom is probably James Cagney, who as far as I can tell never did another Shakespeare onscreen and really should have, although the rest of the film around him is wildly uneven.

I'm sorry Boreas is playing games with the weather, and I hope you're doing all right despite the snowfall.
That is a difficult situation. I'm not sure what one would say. Someone dear to me used to occasionally express the desire to live in a cave and weave rugs, which was much easier to deal with, as I could loyally offer to herd sheep so she'd have a source of wool with which to weave.

I knew someone in college whose fantasy fallback was yak herding, which I always approved of.
