I got back in the car from dropping off [personal profile] spatch and WHRB came on with the Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" (1978). Of the nine monarchs on the sun porch, one is in nephrite-green chrysalis already, two are getting there, and the rest are busily milling their way through the milkweed. I almost fell asleep on a cast-iron bench by the Mystic Dam where a couple of birders with binoculars and telephoto lens were observing an osprey and the air was filled with the flick-winged swoops of swallows and swifts. Things around here have been otherwise more medical than not and environmentally depressed. Have a very few links.

1. The Globe makes the current exhibition at the Norman Rockwell Museum sound irresistible.

2. Via [personal profile] selkie: a meditation on the bog body panel! I remember the author's comment, too.

3. I always like hearing about an ancient shipwreck.

4. First I discovered Gail Holst-Warhaft's Road to Rembetika (1975) and then I found its Anthony Quinn-narrated documentary. She writes a mean ghost poem, too.

5. R.I.P. John Crowley. I never tried to write like him and I loved his language. We met my very first year at Readercon. I love none of this loss.

We went out last night for the Perseids and saw heat-haze: I may have caught one bright streak through the film of cloud. Kids on electric bikes were reinventing polo with a basketball. The solar eclipse on this coast will be extremely partial, but I have hopes for the lunar.
