Yesterday was my brother's birthday, which we had observed with him earlier in the week with soup dumplings and chocolate mousse; he sent pictures on the day from Two Lights, which remains my granite-ledged Platonic ideal of sea-coast. My favorite is the one of my niece and the Cape Elizabeth Light, the cloud-stippled blue of the sky and the wake-streaked blue of the sea behind them both; she looks like a scene by Edward Hopper, except he would have painted her obliquely, not grinning into the camera and the sun.
Today started with an asthma attack and the noise of the porch formerly belonging to the house across the street being demolished, a particularly unwinning combination that has not done much to improve itself in the hours since, but Drs. Hestia and Autolycus are on the case and by turns also my lap.
I had no idea August was National Deli Month. I am entertained by this pride flag.
P.S. Autolycus presents his case, fangs and all, for the cutest baby seal.
