sovay: (Viktor & Mordecai)
I am physically in very bad shape right now and therefore mentally-emotionally not doing so great either, but I thought it would be nice if I shared some stuff that did not make me feel worse.

1. Thanks to [personal profile] skygiants linking this rowdily rousing arrangement of "In Ale Gasn/Daloy Politsey," I discovered the marvelous documentary it came from: Pacific Street Films' Free Voice of Labor: The Jewish Anarchists (1980). Does what says on tin. Based on the scene excerpted therein, it also looks as though I should try to follow up with the Yiddish pre-Code union drama Uncle Moses (אנקל מאזעס‎, 1932).

2. Thanks to last night's Zoom with [personal profile] selkie, I now know about the five gaits of the Icelandic horse. The tölt and the skeið make perfect sense of Sleipnir.

(Also, I can now Zoom again. This was not the case for about a week after the latest upgrade removed its ability to run on Bertie Owen. As of yesterday, I have an iPad on long-term loan: I don't plan to use it as anything other than a magic talkie window because everything about the tablet experience neurologically gives me hives, but the magic talkie window is indispensable right now.)

3. Mamaleh's has reopened for limited, online-ordered takeout. I am just so glad they haven't closed.

In small personal victories, I knew as soon as I saw this cover art that it reminded me of a Magic card. I was wrong that the relevant expansion was The Dark (1994), but I was right that it was an artifact by Mark Tedin: Chaos Orb. My brain has felt so much like a wrung-out sponge lately, I feel genuinely accomplished about this. In rather larger annoyances, I am sick of simply not being able not to have PTSD triggered by something I should enjoy.
