I don't know how to think about this year. I'm still alive at the end of it. I kept my website up to date and commented with my AO3 account. I was the Poet Laureate of NecronomiCon Providence 2019. I wrote a long short story which has not yet found a home and a bunch of poems likewise.
I had one new piece of fiction published:
"Where the Sky Is Silver and the Earth Is Brass" in Machinations and Mesmerism: Tales Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann (ed. Farah Rose Smith), Ulthar Press, July 2019.
More in the way of new poetry:
"The Watchword" in Uncanny Magazine #26, January 2019.
"Epic Cycle" in Else (ed. John Benson), Not One of Us Publications, January 2019.
"Female Figure of the Early Spedos Type, 1884–" in GlitterShip #68, March 2019.
"From Lima to Beijing" in Not One of Us #61, March 2019.
"Punic War IV" in Through the Gate #32, May 2019.
"Maudit" in Not One of Us #62, September 2019.
"Without Prayer or the Place in the Forest" in Uncanny Magazine #31, October 2019.
"And a Sleep Full of Sweet Dreams" in The Cascadia Subduction Zone 9.3, November 2019.
"Uncle Sonya" in The Cascadia Subduction Zone 9.3, November 2019.
A couple of poems reprinted in a nice context:
"Dive" in NecronomiCon Providence 2019 Memento Book (ed. Victoria Dalpe and Justin Steele), Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council Press, August 2019.
"After the Red Sea" in NecronomiCon Providence 2019 Memento Book (ed. Victoria Dalpe and Justin Steele), Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council Press, August 2019.
A couple of short stories ditto:
"A Wolf in Iceland Is the Child of a Lie" in Mythic Journeys: Retold Myths and Legends (ed. Paula Guran), Skyhorse/Night Shade Books, May 2019.
"The Face of the Waters" in Transcendent 4: The Year's Best Transgender Speculative Fiction (ed. Bogi Takács), Lethe Press, October 2019.
Under miscellaneous nonfiction, a book review:
The Penguin Book of Mermaids (ed. Cristina Bacchilega and Marie Alohalani Brown) in Publishers Weekly, August 2019.
And I was interviewed for NecronomiCon:
"NecronomiCon Guest of Honor Interview: Sonya Taaffe" by Jordan Smith at The Dark Crusade, August 2019.
I performed as part of the 29th First Annual Ig Nobel Prize Ceremony, which was extremely fun. It is also heartening to me that a year after its publication, Forget the Sleepless Shores (2018) is still receiving reviews.
Mostly I wrote for Patreon:

It is very difficult for me not to read this past year in terms of things I didn't do, but I know that this year-end summary is not nothing and neither is being alive. I don't know what to wish for 2020. I would just like, really, one of these years, for myself and for everyone I know, which includes the planet, a better year.
