Rabbit, rabbit! I write from a train that was supposed to have left well over an hour ago. Instead we are sitting in the station because, thanks to an issue with the overhead wire, the power is out all down the track and all electric trains are at a standstill until further notice. I still have a couple of hours left before I have to bin my plans to read tonight at Q.E.D., but I would prefer to spend them on a train actually going somewhere. This is a much less auspicious start to my birthday month than I was hoping.
[edit] Two hours after our scheduled departure time, we are away! I was totally not expecting the deep, foghorn-like blare that's been sounding off intermittently for the last half-hour or so. It's like Amtrak has gotten confused about what kind of passenger line they are running. Maybe a steamship would have been faster.
