The amount of snow forecast for tomorrow's nor'easter keeps climbing: it was eight to twelve inches when I got up, now it's ten to fourteen. Both of my doctor's appointments for tomorrow have been canceled, which is probably just as well because I can't imagine how the MBTA is going to behave in a blizzard, except badly.
spatch was reassuring me that we have all the necessary supplies in place for severe levels of French toast when I remembered that we now own a waffle iron and could just make waffles instead. I understand this is partly missing the point, but I'm really proud of the waffle iron. We saved stamps from Star Market and traded them in on New Year's Eve and now we don't need to visit a diner or my parents' house. It's an important step in the evolution of a kitchen. I am sure the cats will want to interact unwisely with it.
Otherwise I feel pretty terrible and have all day, but we watched our first movie of the new year last night and it just made me happy on some essential level of seeing a thing done well (and I hope to write about it, but first I need to feel less terrible) and the cats have been especially affectionate, although that might be because we shared our bagel and lox with them this afternoon before Rob left for work. Autolycus has found himself a new plastic ring off a bottle and sings to it as he hunts it across the apartment, pouncing and batting and occasionally headbutting paper bags in his enthusiasm to make the kill. Hestia darted under a blanket draped over my knee as soon as it showed the slightest signs of becoming a fort.
I really like the image chosen for this month's ekphrastic challenge at Rattle.
