I'm an outlaw in the court of strong opinion

I had a generally lousy day in not very interesting ways, but in the evening [personal profile] spatch and I made a steak with black beans and rice and in honor of Harry Morgan's birthday watched Support Your Local Sheriff! (1969), which was delightful: I realized it belongs to the style of comedy which pitches all the jokes it can think of in the audience's direction while running very fast the other way, which I associate with Mel Brooks and enjoy. Tomorrow I have another doctor's appointment so early I might as well not bother trying to sleep. I have too many movies and even books I would rather write about. In the last few nights we seem to have acquired a mockingbird which serenades us at unwanted hours with its celebrated impersonation of a car alarm. It makes a change from the four a.m. motorcycle across the street.

The people scheduled to work on the fire-alarm system (which is what's causing the beeping) are here, but they're doing something somewhere else in the building and have not turned off the ongoing alarm at the front.

Meanwhile the two guys up turned out to be technicians called to work on a *different* system, also elsewhere in the building, and unrelated to the beeping.

I tried opening the hatch myself but the "silence" button did nothing, and I didn't dare try any of the others.

As of this moment, The Beep Goes On.

It was finally turned off about fifteen minutes ago; and thus ended the World's Worst Technorave.

2:32 pm -- it seems I spoke too soon - the party has now moved to a car-alarm just outside my window.

ETA - yay it's stopped
