I'm an outlaw in the court of strong opinion
I had a generally lousy day in not very interesting ways, but in the evening
spatch and I made a steak with black beans and rice and in honor of Harry Morgan's birthday watched Support Your Local Sheriff! (1969), which was delightful: I realized it belongs to the style of comedy which pitches all the jokes it can think of in the audience's direction while running very fast the other way, which I associate with Mel Brooks and enjoy. Tomorrow I have another doctor's appointment so early I might as well not bother trying to sleep. I have too many movies and even books I would rather write about. In the last few nights we seem to have acquired a mockingbird which serenades us at unwanted hours with its celebrated impersonation of a car alarm. It makes a change from the four a.m. motorcycle across the street.

That mockingbird is still singing. I don't think any car alarms want to mate with it.

Did someone come and make it cease its hopeful call?

Meanwhile the two guys up turned out to be technicians called to work on a *different* system, also elsewhere in the building, and unrelated to the beeping.
I tried opening the hatch myself but the "silence" button did nothing, and I didn't dare try any of the others.
As of this moment, The Beep Goes On.

Thank you! The appointment was sleep-destroying but useful!
(And hopefully some less lousy days to come, too.)
(That'd be nice.)

Fortunately his filmography, while nowhere near Whit Bissell, is gratifyingly extensive! TCM had better run a lot of it this year, is all I'm saying.

I wish we could tell it that it's just a Hestia beacon. She claws at my blinds.

2:32 pm -- it seems I spoke too soon - the party has now moved to a car-alarm just outside my window.
ETA - yay it's stopped

I see from your most recent entry the outcome of the doctor's appointment. Here's to the drops doing better than the mal-directed ointment.

Oh no. I love mockingbirds and their talent for imitation, but less so at unwanted hours! XD Close to my office, there's a parrot that can imitate dogs and swear words and it's delightful!
I hope today is better! <3

It was definitely the right thing to do with the evening. My mother remembers it fondly: she has always liked James Garner. The supporting cast is a heap of character actors, of whom Jack Elam is another standout. And while I still do not think of myself as especially experienced in Westerns, I had seen the major riffs for this movie, which is always fun.
"Can you do the sixth Brandenburg Concerto? How about "Cruel Mother"? How about ... the sound of silence. No I don't mean the song. I mean the sound of one hand clapping."
Maybe it wants to learn John Cage's 4'33"!

It sounds it! I don't think I have ever actually met a parrot in person that did imitations. Does it just hang out and bark at people?
I hope today is better!
Thank you! It has been a very tired day, but not an actively bad one, which probably is an improvement.

--Or can goaded into it. "I don't know that you're ready for a task as challenging as this. I mean, you're good .... but are you 4'33" good?"

Yes! It belongs to the owners of the little kiosk where my co-workers and I sometimes buy stuff, so we always see it hanging out there on its perch. Sometimes it says "hi" back to us, which is adorable, but I always lose it when it starts barking or swearing!
