Are you my boy with demons in your sleeve?

As I continue to feel terrible and limited in foodstuffs, I wanted to make dinner with a minimum of time and effort, so I opened a tin of smoked sardines and a tin of mackerel in olive oil and cooked them with leftover basmati rice and black pepper and one of the seasoning blends that [personal profile] spatch and I refer to as "allium in a can" and I believe I succeeded in making totally inauthentic kedgeree. It was hot and tasted good. I bet I could have added yogurt if I had been thinking straight.

Did you pickle and then steam, or steam and then pickle? It sounds really good.

Sorry not to get back before. My husband was the cook, and he says actually he didn't steam the zucchini at all, just sliced them thin and pickled them for maybe thirty minutes.
