But don't you long to be carried on?
Thanks to
sasha_feather linking my review of God's Own Country (2017) in a tweet, the review has now been recommended by the film's official Twitter feed:
I don't think this has ever happened to me before. Normally when I write about movies, especially on account of all the noir and pre-Code, the people who made them have been dead for years and certainly not checking Twitter. I do not expect to hear back from Powell and Pressburger or Derek Jarman.
Francis Lee liked it:
This is wonderful.

Also, to expand: you gave the film-makers (director and all others involved) a gift. Because a rave review is one thing, but you have the poetic skills to document your response, to show them what it's like to be a (very smart, very sensitive) person seeing their work for the first time, to give them back a reflection. And I can't imagine that's not precious.

Thank you!

That's what makes me happiest, I think: that they felt seen by what I wrote. And not even in the "go me, I got it right!" kind of way, but in the way where it is very important to me as a reviewer to talk about the film that exists, not the film I would have liked or the film that's not quite there, and the makers of God's Own Country recognized the film I described. And without this loop of social media I would never have known.
