A part of me rots, my skin all turns silver
I have had this same migraine for three days now, I have slept maybe six hours since Thursday, and I missed almost all of the inaugural Noir City: Boston, but I pulled myself together tonight and I made it out to the Brattle for the very last film of the festival and I enjoyed eighty absolutely unimproving minutes of Shakedown (1950), a cold-hearted sweet-talker of a B-noir starring Howard Duff as more or less Weegee, plus tall blond looks and minus any hint of morals. It zings along like a pre-Code right up until the knee-deep-in-Danes finale, where Duff fails his Yojimbo roll and one of the two ends he's been playing against the middle catches up with him, which he should have expected since it was Lawrence Tierney; it would pair well with Picture Snatcher (1933) or anything starring Warren William. I spent my taxi money on a DVD of Joseph Losey's The Prowler (1951) and told the festival organizer I bought it from that Boston noir next year should mean Scollay Square and Trinity Station in Mystery Street (1950), which he agreed with. I got home and ate some crunchy things. I petted Hestia, the wonderful cat. I am now going to see if I can sleep. Either tomorrow or the day after I am supposed to head down to Providence to help with the very last stages of
greygirlbeast and
humglum's move and right now I can't imagine cleaning out a wastebasket, much less a storage unit. Maybe I'll sleep in July.

Thank you. I can get a lot done with a migraine, but sleep seems to be the one really tricky part.

Thank you. I think I slept eight hours last night!

I kept waking up every hour on the hour and was rewarded with a migraine soon after I got up at like 1. Bleah.

*hugs*
I have kind of given up on the idea of ever catching up on sleep. I did sleep last night, though.
