Your hands in the starlight, your feet on the floor

It is pouring rain so heavily and so coldly that I am not touring bridges this morning: I want architecture, not pneumonia. Since I am awake, however, I plan to devote the day to books, cats, and movies, which I figure should be nearly as good for me as a lot of walking and engineering.

Please enjoy this really cute picture of Bacall and Bogart, reprising their roles from To Have and Have Not (1944) for Lux Radio Theater in 1946.

Yeah, I think it's a much too miserable day to tackle the bridges unless one is completely waterproof and equipped with a heating unit.

The photo's very fun!

I am sorry that you didn't get to tour bridges, but I am glad you are not out in this. It is pissing in a truly ridiculous fashion.

Bogart shoulda played more middle-aged geeks.

The Big Sleep scene was one of the niftiest bits of acting I've ever seen. He reshaped his hat, and I think his walk, and if I'd blinked I would have thought for a second it was a different actor coming into the store.

I’m also convinced that scene inspired Harrison Ford’s “I’m from the American Federation of Variety Artists” disguise in Blade Runner.

Yeah, but even before he starts talking, he looks like someone else. Really made me sit up.

I'm sorry about the bridges. I hope the books and films were good at least.

Bogart is *adorable* in that photo.

I am so relieved you rethought your plans. This is the first Boston Marathon in my memory at least where everyone had to negotiate slush at the opening and the later finishers had to dodge falling sleet, hail, and ice. I worried that you would emulate the Marathoners.

Here in CT, no snow or ice, only 2-4 inches of rain, which the helpful TV meteorologists informed us is an entire month or two months' worth of rain in a few hours.
