Andrew reported the good news some time early this morning; was pleased to confirm later that it hadn’t been a dream.
Scary close, but I’m assuming that the Alabama republicans had their collective thumb on the scale, just not hard enough this time to outweigh the voters.

They did, and they had (feh) the President, but the opposition had the NAACP. May it be the pattern of the years to come.
