Would you know it was a rose if it wasn't called so?
So the answer to how I am doing lately is "really, really badly," but on Wednesday I am heading to New York City to see Anaïs Mitchell's Hadestown at the New York Theatre Workshop at the invitation of
ladymondegreen. I have been wanting to see this music staged since 2010 and I am looking forward to it. I also plan to hit up the Strand. Music, books, myths: these things are good.

This is what I hear! It makes me so happy. The music wanted a show.

Thank you! I have heard almost nothing but good things.

I was [am?] a little anxious that they've included more story, more focus on the Hades-Persephone relationship,** but Claire assures me it's well done and makes for great parallels with the Orpheus-Eurydice story.
Needless to say, I am very, very, VERY much looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the performance.
**Sometimes less is more. So that's my anxiety.

I am honored to have been Patient Zero for this particular myth-spread. I'm just so glad the music made it to the stage, which it always sounded like it was meant for; I am sorry that I have never had the chance to see Greg Brown as Hades, but I look forward to finding out what the songs I know so well sound like in different voices, which is in many ways what the epic tradition is all about.
Needless to say, I am very, very, VERY much looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the performance.
I'll try! I am behind on everything I want to write about.
Sometimes less is more. So that's my anxiety.
(Legit.)
[edit] I thought it worked beautifully.
