They say he is a monster, dear old Mr. Green

So I wanted to write about Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) when I got home tonight.

Slightly past the 2000-word mark, my arms hit a brick wall.

I will finish the post and put it up tomorrow. Expect discussion of structure, voice, and Bruce Banner. I am going to put an ice pack on my elbows and go to bed.

Also meant to say, durr, that's a great review, you really got at what made it so great (without overlooking its flaws). Without Evans I don't think I would have watched it.

Oh, and just in case you want some HEARTBREAK with your coffee, Hayley Atwell said in an interview with Buzzfeed:

"Did Peggy and Steve ever have that dance?"

Yes, 100% I do actually. I think they’ve met up in the 21st century, there’s a huge age difference obviously but I think it happened. Also sadly towards the end of Peggy’s life, because she’s very old, because she’s got Alzheimer’s and dementia she forgets. So she forgets that they had their dance, so every time Steve sees her they’ve got to dance again. She’s reliving that first dance every time she sees him.

....I'm personally retconning that Tony Stark takes up some brilliant but out-there scientist working on Alzheimer's and throws all the money in the world at him for Peggy, because otherwise it's just so sad, altho I LOVE that she did have a full, great life without Steve.

Yeah, I mean, I can see how it works thematically -- the people he loves who loved him don't really know him except patchily and they're sea-changed to him too -- but I think with Peggy that could have been done just re old age, not making her have dementia, and also Bucky gets a Love Conquers All Edit (which I am not making light of, I LOVE that moment and how Evans and Stan absolutely fucking sell it), and that's not possible for Peggy. And I love her. Augh. 'Brainwashed' doesn't really parallel 'Alzheimer's' in that way. But the movie is so good I can just sorta retcon it.

(Steve visits Peggy every week. And brings her flowers. And really good tea. And helps her go outside for a walk. And she can tell him stories about her life after he uh died, on her good days. And he will love them.)
