How long will this go on? How long indeed?

My short story "A Wolf in Iceland Is the Child of a Lie" is now online at Lightspeed Magazine. It was originally published in Not One of Us #45 and I am delighted to see it reach a wider audience. There is also an author spotlight with me. I'm asked about Norse myth and I talk about classical Greek statues. Welcome to my brain.

Not One of Us has a new website! All credit to Karl Benson, emergency webmaster. It's rudimentary as yet, but it's got guidelines. E-mail John Benson at john@not-one-of-us.pub or use the contact form here. Further developments as rebuilding warrants.

Still thinking seriously about Patreon. Still would appreciate practical advice. Still want to talk about things.

She is the goddess of μῆτις — cunning, tricky thought, creative intelligence; the ability to think around corners and into the future. Mētis is the reason Athene is associated with the technically intricate, metaphorically loaded craft of weaving; it is the shared trait that makes her so fond of Odysseus, the consummate trickster hero of Greek myth. You are far and away the best of mortals at designs and stories, while I am famous among all the gods for craft and cleverness. (Songs are woven; so are stories; so are lies.)

That made me really really happy.

Alas, I have never run or contributed to a Patreon, so I got nothing. If necessary, though, I can try to put you in touch with one or more of the bloggers I follow who do have Patreon setups.

Patreon has been a great good for at least one of my friends who is a poet and a songwriter. I like the idea of movie reviews and cat pictures as a source of income. If nothing else, it will mean more movies and cat interactions.

Monday seems auspicious for beginnings. I expect you'll be able to reach more of your audience then. I fear the weekend will be filled for a lot of people, between recent SFnal rumblings, and the fact that it might actually be nice outside.

That being said, you have a very loyal group of people around you, so I expect that word will spread, no matter when the announcement comes.

Here's to more cats and mini-film festivals.

Stupid suggestion for an easy low-level backer reward: post cute "exclusive" cat photos to Patreon as like a $5 exclusive backer level. Someone told me people will jump through the damndest hoops for "exclusive" content. (I didn't think anyone would go for $10 postcards, and yet, a couple people have.) They wouldn't need to be super-duper DSLR photos either! Just cute cat photo with amusing one-line caption. And I presume your cats are adorable just being themselves.
