Right now my brain wants to add the disclaimer "I'm sure I don't look like this anymore," but I am overriding it: here is another picture from Wednesday's Burns Supper. I like it.

so it seems very unlikely that you would have changed dramatically from Wednesday to now. Unless you got cosmetic surgery or something and didn't mention it.

My mouth is very swollen from the braces and the grimaces required to get them in and out of my mouth (it's not fast; they don't just need to fit tightly around my teeth, they need to hook into the attachments) seem to be leaving pain-lines, which I like a lot less than the kind that form from animated conversation or smiling. I am sure some of this sensation is Tiny Richardson and/or Wittgenstein, but it feels unnecessary to have gotten to a point in my life where I can enjoy photographs of myself and then be thrown back into feeling it was a brief shining moment, that's not my face anymore. In other news, my self-image is way too closely tied to the state of my physical health.

Ah, swelling and such is only temporary. You'll be back to your usual self in no time. I hope kissing an ice pack helps in the meantime.

I /suspect/ at least that you (and your mouth) will get used to them. If anything except maybe your teeth is hurting by a week from now, call your orthodontist and yell at (him/her/them/gtst).*

*(Sorry, I'm having a week of real and fictional genderambiguous people; and am simultaneously determined to be polite about this and alarmed (though also amused) by the complexity this can entail.)
