I was only suggesting fifty years of me

[livejournal.com profile] derspatchel and I are engaged.

I gave him a copy of The Lady's Not for Burning. He gave me Tom Swift and His Repelatron Skyway. I brought the rings: a design of two cats, side by side. At the Friendly Toast, we signed our names to the question on the frontispiece of one book and the finale of the other.

(We are still making wedding plans. It is with great self-restraint that I have not titled this post THIS WILL ALL BE GONE INTO AT THE PROPER TIME.)

We are very, very happy.

Also, I may have been too young, the first time I heard The Lady's Not For Burning. It was on the radio, I was still a child, and I misheard or misunderstood. What I heard...?

But it's not a dog at all. It's a witch:
A rather appealing brindle witch with many fleas.

Which is - of course! - what I still hear, every time. (And, damn it, I knew what "brindle" meant! Apparently "bitch" eluded me, or my ears censored it out because it was a Bad Word, or whatever. "Witch" it is, and "witch" it will always be, for me.)
