In the wild October nighttime

Man, today was both Simchas Torah and the two hundred and sixth anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and I missed it. I should have sunk a ship with a machzor, or something.

Also Ursula K. Le Guin's birthday, which I am grateful for.

Brass Monkey, "Dr Fauster's Tumblers/The Night of Trafalgar/Prince William"

But our gallants all the while after fighting through the day
Were beating up and down the dark sou'west of Cadiz Bay

The Klezmatics, "Simkhes-Toyre"

Afile di shtern mit der levone
Zenen gegangen trinken vayn

Tori Amos, "Black-Dove (January)"

They don't know you've already lived
On the other side of the galaxy

P.S. I don't know if you would call this a bonus, but looking to see if I had any genuine science-fiction songs on my computer:

Eliza Carthy, "Space Girl"

She said that Venus was too hot and Saturn not much fun
And bug-eyed monsters tended to be just a trifle dumb
She said I'd need a blaster and a freezer gun
And I did, I did, I did

My friend [livejournal.com profile] osewalrus used to throw in bits of the Monty Python tobacconist's shop routine when 'reading' from the Art Scroll Song of Songs translation, an we would alternate between laughing and saying "No! You're making that part up." Sadly, he almost never was.
