Watch out for earthquakes

In which I call [livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks, because it's an autumn-bright afternoon in Harvard Square and I love them.

Rush's phone: *rings*

No one picks up; I keep on walking down Mass. Ave.

My phone: *rings*

Rush-That-Speaks: Sorry, I missed your call because of the earthquake.

Ho. Ly. Shit.

Not today, please.

*hugs* Glad you and [livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks are okay. We had broken windows, acoustic tiles, books falling, the works (at work). Don't know what home is going to be like, and don't want Nicole to worry about it. Sigh.

If only it had been the Rapture; then at least I could be assured of spoils, you know, plunder? My only ill-gotten gain is going to be a longer commute, because they're running the Metro at 15mph until further notice.

I need to go play kitten poker. (sorry, N has been watching a lot of Buffy.)

It seems to have done things in odd patterns-- I'm in Reston, which is a lot closer to the epicenter than you guys, and we got a rumble and vibrations which initially made me think somebody was doing construction in the basement of the building I was next to. And no damage, nothing down, all businesses open and as usual.

Then, since Reston was being completely as though nothing had happened, I went into D.C. to meet family for dinner. MISTAKE.

...Yeah. I'm sorry about that epic journey through the center of the earth. It took me two and a half hours to get from Alexandria to the end of the red line, and that was with leaving half an hour early because I knew that pooch was tidily screwed, forgive my colloquialism.
