I heard the grey wolf sing her serenade at night

[reposted from last night, on account of Livejournal being totally borked]

My epic collaboration with Mike Allen and Nicole Kornher-Stace, "The King of Cats, the Queen of Wolves," is now online at Apex Magazine. Interview conducted by Francesca Forrest here, outtakes here. I keep forgetting I actually wrote a sestina for this poem.

I dreamed last night about following a shadowy sort of cult, the kind that draws circles on bare apartment floors and chooses sacrifices from among themselves, but I also dreamed about day planners and waiting at bus stops in nicotine-lit nighttime rain, talking to janitors in off-season university stairwells, so it was clearly one of those lifestyles that is much less romantic in person.

I am so tired. It would be nice if my brain would come back.

Now if only people will realize LJ is up again.

I have at least seen that things are back to normal.

Congratulations on your major publication! By the by, your book finally arrived from Amazon. :)

Also, Dave Carter is love.

I met Dave about two years before he died. He was as gracious and lovely as you would expect. I've met Tracy a few times since then, and she's lovely and mellow. I sang with her a few times in campfire settings and she's very warm and welcoming.

My friends, [livejournal.com profile] filker0 and [livejournal.com profile] spiritdance introduced the filk community to their music starting with Kate and the Ghost of Lost Love and When I Go.

I frequently cover Lancelot with [livejournal.com profile] batyatoon and we've been known to do other songs too. I love his poetry and his rhymes. He's been a big influence on many of us, particularly [livejournal.com profile] seanan_mcguire who's very fond of his Preston Miller.

I've always theorized that the protagonist of Crocodile Man is the son from Cat-Eye Willie but never actually thought to ask.

I <3 murder ballads, so I'm going to go read [livejournal.com profile] cucumberseed's work. :)

It was also reprinted in Rich Horton's The Year's Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 2009.

I have actually added just that book to my Amazon wishlist for that reason. :)

I think they belong to different times, but definitely the same pack of archetype.

There was in fact a time travel theory associated with this idea.

You're welcome. I figure it's the least I can do to support other Dave Carter fans who see the potential for stories in his songs, as I do. :)

Two sestinas! Very nicely done.

Also, excellent musical choice. Have you heard "To Cut is to Cure"?

They do blend together well.

Then which one is yours?

If you have a Dropbox, I can hook you up with more Matmos. You need more Matmos in your life.

According to Dropbox (dropbox.com) you do have an account.

Phew! I just read the interview (before reading the poem). This is an incredible undertaking. I loved hearing the thought process behind the poem's creation and unfolding and how you all worked with and off each other. With this background, tonight, I'm going to find a cup of tea and a quiet place and read what, after all these years, you produced.

Amazing. The collaboration worked beautifully; I love the shifts and progressions and the repetition of images at times. Gorgeous images that make me taste everything, through my eyes and skin as well, and in that deep place that knows what gnaws and rumbles through us all.

See. You CAN write a sestina and have it be rich and worthwhile.
