And always in our ears was the sound of the ocean

Chanteys for the Fisherangels is now available from Papaveria Press.

You may remember I spoke of this project in the winter; I think it is one of the more numinous things I have been involved with. The book collects four poems inspired by James Yorkston's cover of Lal Waterson's "Midnight Feast": [livejournal.com profile] seajules' "The sky is the floor of an ocean," my own "The Coast Guard," [livejournal.com profile] asakiyume's "Invitation Refused," and [livejournal.com profile] cucumberseed's "Feather, Halo, Hook and Line," with introduction by [livejournal.com profile] nineweaving and photographs by me. I took them in Portland, Maine, where I grew up in the summers by the sea.

There are thirty-three copies, twenty-five of which are available for purchase. They are bound with linen, shells, and feathers, and the sea has worked on them. Go; study; pick one up from the sand and take it home. [livejournal.com profile] erzebet's work is something rich and strange.

Congratulations. To have such extraordinary embodiment for and accompaniment to your words and photographs must be deeply gratifying.

Such beautiful work from all of you. Lal would have loved this book.

I received my copy yesterday, fresh from Yorkshire. I was almost afraid to open it, but not quite. It's a beautiful sea-change, from eyes to pearls and back again.
