Running through the underworld into your room

My poem "By the Dog," written for an Egyptology-minded four-year-old I know, has been accepted by The Pedestal Magazine.

One may now purchase copies of Hidden, the latest annual not-Not One of Us publication; it contains my poem "Anakatabasis," as well as Patricia Russo's "Hey," Meredith Roe's "Gabriel," Erik Amundsen's "Strawberry Ghoul," David Kopaska-Merkel's "Death Dreams," and other apocrypha.

(I think I got [livejournal.com profile] cucumberseed's dreams last night. I woke up with the line, The mulberry king led his people through the winter hedges, like a bird's breadcrumb trail of refugees. It is exactly what I watched happen in the dream; I wrote it down on an envelope and fell back asleep and dreamed of a museum full of guitars, musical impersonators, and gilded bracken. No idea who that one was supposed to go to.)

I had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] sigerson and [livejournal.com profile] sen_no_ongaku. They had made chicken-carrot coconut soup and fresh bread; I brought eggnog cake. A good time was had by all, I think including the cat.

That meal sounds delicious and your poetry news is all good! And "a bird's breadcrumb trail of refugees" does sound very much like a [livejournal.com profile] cucumberseed image.

Very cool on Pedestal.

They took a short-short of mine last year. Then I sent a truly strange spoken word electronica thing that wasn't right. I guess I should send something else eventually once I'm organized.

Congratulations on the acceptance! I'm imagining this would be a delightful poem.

The dreams sound fascinating. The one about the museum could be one of mine, although, if it were, there'd be a fair chance that the guitars would be physically incapable of playing. I also have a lot of dreams about mechanically absurd weapons, vehicles, and random devices which, nonetheless, function in the dream.

Glad to hear of the lovely dinner.

Word. My father liked some of his books--I'll have to tell him the sad news.

Thanks!

Welks!

Well, I think so. Its inspiration's teachers have had to tell her not to describe the mummification process to her classmates, so I think she will, too.

Charming. Sounds like a kid I can relate to rather well. I hope it indeed delights her.

What a lot of poems you've had accepted and published lately! Congratulations, several times over!

Congratulations on the Pedestal publication!

I've been proofreading a book about dreams for work, and I'm pretty sure the symbols and imagery in most of your dreams fall out of the realm of the "norm." Can't seem to find a category "gilded bracken." :)

I had a dream with bracken last night. It was blooming yellow, not gilded, but I'll take it.

I mostly pushed through it to get to something on the other side, but there may have been birds.

When I first saw the title of this post, I automatically finished it in my head before I finished reading it.

My version was, "Running through the underworld in your underwear".

I think this speaks rather eloquently as to the differences between your poetically beautiful way of expressing yourself and my rather silly ways of expressing myself. ;)

PS: The above icon is from the show Wonderfalls, which had Lee Pace from Pushing Daisies in it. I think you would like it, if you don't already. :D Not as wonderful as PD, but pretty dang good.

I loved Pushing Daisies.

Yis, I knew that from the panel we were on together at Arisia 2009, hence why I suddenly thought to recommend Wonderfalls. :)
