My flash/manifesto "The New Alexandria" has been accepted by Jabberwocky. I gave Eric a wok tonight for Hanukkah, which I think is in keeping with its spirit.
Cool and cool compounded: congratulations to you and to Eric. Jabberwocky looks great -- is this their first issue coming up? Still taking submissions, maybe. Hmmm....
"The New Alexandria" intrigues; I dream of a single library in many far places. Did you hear about the discovery of the planet that's almost all ocean, a tiny rocky core swaddled in waters nine thousand miles deep? The universe keeps getting stranger.

No, they've been around since 2005, but their publishing schedule was wildly irregular for a couple of years. They seem to have settled on one annual issue in the summer, which happily coincides with Readercon.

Go for it!

That's a lovely line.

I am intrigued! Shall have to write some things to seduce Erze with so I can get a contributor copy and read this. (Or buy it, but I like the notion of sharing pages with a flash/manifesto titled "The New Alexandria".)
Does he know how to use a wok? There are a few tricks to it, would be glad to write up if he needs it.
This wok was a replacement for his old one, which perished ignominiously in a washing-related accident last year, so I believe he knows what he's doing; but I also don't think it could hurt. Thank you!

I had not! I hope someone's told Le Guin.
The universe keeps getting stranger.
Yeah. It makes me happy.

They're open until they run out of wordspace. Send them something—or several things—posthaste!

I think I'm going to order a wok spatula and cleaning brush from the folks who made the wok.
The old wok was actually my roommate Bob's and I believe it had never been properly seasoned / broken in, hence it got rusty, of all things.
Hot and sour chicken, Hunan Restaurant (SF, CA) recipe, here we come!
(Chicken, bell pepper, carrot, celery, ginger, garlic, black bean paste, soy sauce, vinegar, white wine, chicken broth, and hot pepper.)

Now I'm imagining the Wok Spirit, as drawn by Miyazaki.

I bet it's somewhere in Spirited Away. You'd just have to look for it.

And I hope he enjoys his wok! I've seen them used for frying latkes, FWIW. ;-)
