time_shark, hooks_and_books, tithenai, mer_moon, ajodasso, and other unusual suspects. The poem was not intended to contain an A.E. Housman echo, but I suspect Sappho won't mind. It reminds me that I need to translate some poems into Greek.
". . . in the earth in those days" is only in English, but it will appear in a future issue of Sirenia Digest. I stole its basic conceit from Mrs. S.C. Hall's "The Seal-Wife: An Irish Legend"—Godey's Lady's Book, March 1843; I haveasakiyume to thank for drawing it to my attention—in which selkies are glossed as the souls of those who drowned in Noah's flood. Needless to say, I have my own ideas about whether this is a penance.
Thanks to everyone who offered their ideas about computer-buying. I gave up on stores entirely; I am now awaiting the new arrival, which I should probably encircle with all the apotropaic rituals I can write.

"apotropaic" must mean "protective," yes? (suspend time a second as you read this comment--that's the time I'm going to spend looking it up, just .... now) Aha. "Designed to avert evil." To which I might add "when evil is defined as 'computer harming.'" I'll ask
