I expect you think that I should be haunted

Today's sole redeeming feature has been the discovery of the Decemberists' "The Rake's Song," a reasonably hard-rocking murder ballad. The circumstances of its album's conception—inspired by Anne Briggs, going to feature Robyn Hitchcock—also make me happy, but right now not as much as singing headbangingly about infanticide.

Charlotte I buried after feeding her foxglove / Dawn was easy, she was drowned in the bath

I love that song. =D

Sorry about the rest of the day--but what a deliciously awesome song. It reminds me (maybe oddly?) of "Lady Jane" by the Rolling Stones.

Wow. That song is awesome. Such a wonderful way to start the day. (Dude, I sat here grinning. Perhaps I need help.)

ps are you going to go to the Decemberists concert on 6/9 (I kind of hate the Bank of America Pavilion, but I really want to see them in concert in light of their awesome new song so...)? My friend Jen is going to try to get tickets tomorrow-- if you don't have tickets yet we could probably snag a couple for you...

On that note, are you going to the concert in NYC on Sunday?

Yes -- to hear [livejournal.com profile] shirei_shibolim wax cantorial. :) But Boskone is an equal opportunity! Wish I could be there simultaneously.

I have to check out the Decemberists. You're the second person who has been caught by them. When I try to download here, my computer freezes, so I'll try another route.

Heh, I just found what [livejournal.com profile] ohilya had said about them (I save these things--many of your recommendations included--on a growing list): "And The Decemberists have an album, Crane Wife. Get thee to a record shoppe and pick it up as well. You can thank me after you've wept at the beauty of these two albums later." That alone made me want to run out, but I'm trying to be practical these days :) (AND now I'm wondering what the second album was ... I've only the one listed with the quote. Hmmm....)

Thank you kindly!
I'm out right now, so it'll be a while afore I may listen to this, but any song with that genealogy has got to be worth the hearing. ;-)

I hope there's more redeeming features to today.

I'm hoping the rest of the album lives up to its backstory.

I'll join my hopes to yours, then.
