Today's sole redeeming feature has been the discovery of the Decemberists' "The Rake's Song," a reasonably hard-rocking murder ballad. The circumstances of its album's conception—inspired by Anne Briggs, going to feature Robyn Hitchcock—also make me happy, but right now not as much as singing headbangingly about infanticide.

I have to check out the Decemberists. You're the second person who has been caught by them. When I try to download here, my computer freezes, so I'll try another route.

Heh, I just found what ohilya had said about them (I save these things--many of your recommendations included--on a growing list): "And The Decemberists have an album, Crane Wife. Get thee to a record shoppe and pick it up as well. You can thank me after you've wept at the beauty of these two albums later." That alone made me want to run out, but I'm trying to be practical these days :) (AND now I'm wondering what the second album was ... I've only the one listed with the quote. Hmmm....)
