sovay: (Cho Hakkai: intelligence)
A little before five o'clock this evening, my phone rang. I picked it up and a well-modulated metallic tenor voice said, "I AM YOUR COMPUTER BERTIE, BACK FROM THE DEAD. ALL HAIL [SOVAY'S FATHER]." And so I discovered not only that Bertie Owen had survived his keyboard transplant, but that he had text-to-speech capabilities.

About fifteen minutes ago, my father dropped off my newly keyboarded laptop. His memory is intact (although I had to redo most of his passwords, since he'd had his battery out), all of the applications I've opened so far are functioning as expected, he appears to be typing fine. I am reading a backlog of e-mail before plunging back into Nokia. I did in fact thank my father a lot.

Thank you to everyone who offered to donate or negotiate laptops or parts. Right now it looks as though the need is not so imminent as it was, but I appreciate it all the same.

Yay, this weird one-lunged laptop!
