Sirenia Digest #7 arrived in my inbox this afternoon, and it's beautiful. Vince Locke's illustration for "Constellations, Conjunctions" looks exactly as the character should, like a cut-out from the night sky and the stars (. . . and, when he shall die, / Take him and cut him out in little stars, / And he will make the face of heaven so fine / That all the world will be in love with night . . .), and the second half of [livejournal.com profile] greygirlbeast's "The Black Alphabet" completes one of the most amazing pieces I've read recently or ever. From Absinthe to Zoosporangium, it's not precisely like anything else out there, and that's as it should be; and I would be remiss if I did not also mention her "Giants in the Earth," which caused me to read Michael Moorcock's An Alien Heat in 2002. Subscribe, for God's sake, if you haven't already. You want this kind of strangeness in your life.

The rest of this entry, that's just me obsessing. The usual.

(Cut for Black Books and Bernard Black.)
