The dreams are all melting, only to reform

Have a post mostly free of content! I stole the first meme from [livejournal.com profile] yhlee:

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything [within reason]: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal if you are so inclined.

Obviously, I could not tell you much about yaoi or graphic techniques, but all sorts of other random subjects are fair game. At the moment I am thinking that I need to research more of Leslie Howard's life, but I would probably have mentioned that anyway. The other two are courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] lignota.

You Were A Jaguar

A shapeshifter that understands the patterns of chaos.

You are powerful and move without fear in dark places.

I can't really complain about that.

You Are Surrealism

Dreamy and idealistic, you've created a world that is all your own.

It's very likely that you've either dabbled in drugs or are naturally trippy.

You are always trying to push beyond the boundaries of your culture and society.

You believe that art, love, and freedom can change the world.

I should be so lucky!

In actual news, this afternoon I watched Pierrepoint (2006) and tonight I saw [livejournal.com profile] gaudior and [livejournal.com profile] rushthatspeaks (with a side of [livejournal.com profile] weirdquark, Thrud, and a ninja) and they were awesome. This is not an unusual condition for them, but it is always worth the mention.

There's something about a quiz that's going to tell me what art movement I am that makes me giggle. But okay, let's find out what :-) (oh boring, I got surrealism too. And I really object to that last question; I could like any of those types of art, or dislike them, depending)

Way to go on the jaguar! That one jives with what I've seen of you online. The spaced-out trippy thing, not so much.

I dunno, the combination of immense artistic ability with elusiveness, the frequent use of mythological/literary/other references in ways that some readers may miss, and emphasis on/inspiration from the world of dreams, is distinctly reminiscent of Dali.

Anyway, for your challenge you are to do NONE of these things, but rather post upon your own backstory. Dredge up those painful memories of your high school years! (I'm merely assuming they're painful.) Sing of telescopes, or archery, or some other weird facet of your life!

Oh, you're right about immense artistic ability and elusive/allusiveness--I was mainly teasing on the write-up the quiz maker gave to surrealism. But definitely, [livejournal.com profile] sovay has excellent surreal traits too!

You do some incredible posts on your dreams. Do you ever have recurring dreams?

Very beautiful, and disturbing. I had a museum, or exhibition of some sort, that used to re-cur, but it hasn't for some time now. I rather miss it.

Interesting memes.

And the tenses in the last paragraph are also interesting. ;-) I hope you had a good time.

They were awesome when I saw them; this is not a surprise, because they generally are. This is why English needs an aorist.

I figured it was something like that.

I never did have a very good handle on the aorist, but I do feel for you. To me the most frustrating things about (standard) English are the lack of clarity in dealing with duration--no habitual nor imperfect tenses--and the sound system's having been robbed of all its charms--the gutterals lost and that stupid vowel shift.

Glad they were awesome, and that they do be so most always.
