And last night I dreamed of reading a collection of short stories from the next universe over where Rudyard Kipling was an Anglophile rakshasa. If my subconscious was trying to say something about cultural appropriation, I think it missed the boat.

I once had a brief conversation in a dream with someone who was studying the theological writings of a vampire mystic. And someone else was studying the little-known plectral technique of playing the viola da gamba, invented by a gambist who had, before becoming a professional musician, worked as an overseer on a galley.

I have read "Ring of Fire." (I'm very fond of the collection in which it appears.) You do awesome historical settings.
