I may also be inheriting a coat that makes me look about to commit crimes in pre-Code Chicago, although not any time in the next six months, because at an ambient temperature in the mid-seventies Fahrenheit I almost died of heatstroke.
Do you own anything slightly disreputable, in a colorway that says that guy from the Brecht song’s got nothin’ on me or possibly my gun moll blackmails your union boss?

Argh. Managed to torch my first comment. The good thing about that is that I get to tell you that your coat is cool. Chicago cool, of course. And then I can enthuse about The Staples Singers. Have you heard "Nina Cried Power," by Hozier, featuring the amazing Mavis Staples?
Wow! I remember Bob and I both using an early Mavis Beacon typing computer program; Bob used it to learn to type, while I used it to keep my speed up. If the creators named it after Mavis Staples, it was a great choice.
Also, I really like your description of Mavis Beacon as the Betty Crocker of typing. Heh.
I only heard of her a few years ago (never took typing), and I was fascinated by the software developers just gave users a name and a photo of a model (who actually worked at a department store perfume counter), and yet it apparently created a whole character in people's minds, to the point where the software company (allegedly) got journalists calling up asking if they could interview Ms. Beacon.
Oh, that's fascinating! I actually just downloaded the free Mavis Beacon program, and it's just like I remember. Fun, and frustrating. I thought my typing was faster than it was (55 wpm adjusted for a few mistakes). I imagine I'll turn to the program now and then to see if I can improve that.
Oh, delightful! Perhaps not for the sweltering mean streets, but you do look perfectly ready to crack wise, tip a hat, and saunter out onto a sidewalk filmed in black and white.

c'mon, I'm prettu sure someone can rig up a water-cooling pipe system inside that glorious item of apparel. think of how amazing it would be to wear it in 90 degree weather because it's keeping you *cool*
Alas, I ahve the same relationship with calculus-type math as I do with many of my exes: I love them and they never loved me. Math is the language the universe is written in and I am sadly only fluent in English. is sad

If I don't, clearly I need one.
We all need one like that
...given the joyously disreputable nature of your readers.
What a great coat, if not a greatcoat.

That is not something I knew. I hope that means Mavis Beacon in her fictional life could really sing.

The winner, a game I have wanted to play ever since except for that petty little thing where it doesn't exist, was Mavis Beacon Teaches Sniping.

I haven't worn it since moving out of Marshall Street, but the occasion plainly calls for it.
