This strange war, this underworld
The parking ticket has been dismissed. The pictures taken by the overzealous parking control officer upheld my contention that I had been incorrectly ticketed while parked on the appropriate side of the street for that morning's street sweeping per the sign I had in fact parked directly in front of. The person who handled the ticket appeal was wearing a mask, too, which made two of us in the building.
Despite having heard both the Replacements and Alex Chilton, I am not sure I'd heard the Replacements' "Alex Chilton" (1987) before it came around this afternoon on WERS. I got Deep Sea Diver's "Billboard Heart" (2024) from WHRB and Gigi Perez's "Sailor Song" (2024) from
selkie, who will incidentally be in town this weekend for the first time since the last glaciation.
My father really liked the Yiddish insult mug I impulse-bought him from Porter Square Books. You want to keep the box; it has all the translations. He regrets only that it doesn't include putz.
It is amazing how much the anger doesn't help with the exhaustion.
kindkit has a list of strategies.

You may be able to guess who I used it at!
'Zot' got used at the same time.

Oh, there are so many candidates . . .
(I didn't realize you had a working vocabulary of Flemish insults; mazel tov!)

Thank you! I will. Even when the two of you are visibly capable of being adorable off your own bat.

You are. And a better companion for a day by the sea.

What do we even need the Yellowstone Caldera for!

I like the Replacements, and Alex Chilton, and the Replacements' "Alex Chilton" a lot! I was just listening to this while on the train the other day and thinking of how great it is!
What is, in your opinion, the best ever Yiddish insult? Rioplatense insults are the absolute best and nothing can ever come close XD But I'm always curious about other people's favourites, because we can never have enough!

It's a good song to listen to on a train.

Oh, God, it's a tough call. In terms of character assassination, I've always been fond of 注专 讗讬讝 谞讬讟 讜讜注专讟 讜讜讗指住 讚讬 讝讜谉 砖撞址谞讟 讗讜讬祝 讗讬诐, er iz nit vert vos di zun shaynt af im, "he isn't worth the sun shining on him," but in terms of totally writing off the subject, I'm a big fan of 注住 讗址专讟 诪讬讱 讜讜讬 讚讬 拽讗址抓 驻挚讜谉 诪讬讟讜讜讗指讱, es art mikh vi di kats fun mitvokh, "I care like a cat cares about Wednesday."
If we're talking curses, my all-time favorite is 讞转讜谞讛 讛讗指讘谉 讝讗指诇 注专 诪讬讟 讚讬 诪诇讗讱 讛诪讜讜转 讟讗指讻讟注专, khasene hobn zol er mit di malekh-hamoves tokhter, "he should marry the daughter of the Angel of Death." It turned into a poem of the same name.

I also did not realize we were "cite the vaybertaytsh as well as the translit" fancy, but I will endeavor to keep up the standard. (You could try being lazy. You never will, but you could.)

You're welcome! If you live with cats, it rings very true.

I can only do it with languages I know!

I have a hard time thinking of my favourites, but one of the classiest I ever heard was (almost unbelievably) in a football match context: You're slower than (the song) "Only you"! My grandma's favourite was "sad balls", and I still use that one a lot to this day! I also use "sorete en pala" (shit on a shovel), and "quita hipo" (hiccups stopper) a lot, for people with ugly/nasty behaviour. But the winner has to be one of my co-workers, who one day, in a fit of anger, loudly said "Christ's cunt!"
