Shining broken glass washed up on a beach
It turns out I did not need to petition my parents to cancel their subscription to the Washington Post because they had never taken one out in the first place, but as a glass-rattling screech of the Overton window I did not enjoy the news about either it or the Los Angeles Times. I would prefer not to be told how fluffily naive it is of me to want to live in a democracy this time next year without any more of an asterisk next to it. Of course we have plans to vote. Of course I want it to matter.

The daughter of LA Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong claims his decision was tied to the Gazan genocide. If that's true (highly doubtful) the LA Times' decision stands slightly higher in my opinion than WaPo's
(Among the many comments on WaPo's news story about itself was one that stated print subscription cancellations would hit harder than digital, since digital numbers can be tweaked to hide the company's hits from their losses; I have no idea how, but I certainly hope a lot of hard copy subscribers ditch them.)

Understood. All of the responses I have seen reported from the staff are equally furious and distressed, so I hope they will see canceled subscriptions as solidarity rather than shooting the messenger.

It does not for me: I can see no path in which handing the vote to Trump will improve the lot of the people in Gaza rather than annihilate them further and with the enthusiastic backing of Christian Zionism. Any claim otherwise across the social media to which I have access has been really stressing me out.

Agreed. I understand Bezos has obscene financial insulation from the consequences of his actions, but they should still be visible.
