Screaming in the distant sea

Realistically I understand that the glitches of Watch TCM have much more to do with the indifference of David Zaslav than the inconvenience to me, but it is frustrating that it really seems to go on the blink when I have been waiting to watch something off it, in this case almost all of the movies that aired last night in centenary honor of Gloria Grahame.
On the pleasanter side of the evening, we made a lamb and lentil stew for dinner and are mulling cider for dessert. Now if my back would just stop hurting and I could get some sleep.

No, it's been the reaction of just about everyone I know! Including some of the obituaries!

Like Death in the meme, I was so genuinely surprised it had actually happened, I said, "Wow."

The opening and closing paragraphs were like seeing Hilaire Belloc in the wild: "I wept: for I had longed to see him hanged."
I am having a great time on Twitter, because as someone put it "this site is never as satisfying as when a war criminal dies".
I am glad it retains some utility!

Death: "Ooh! I hooked me a Henry Kissinger!"
(Wakanomori said social media is asking how one flies a flag at double mast)

I thought he was doing a lot better recently! He even finally got new teeth! I read an interview in the Guardian that was pretty good.... This one, about a year ago https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/apr/04/of-course-i-like-life-shane-macgowan-on-the-pogues-his-death-wish-and-his-sideline-in-erotic-art Apparently he got quite sick with encephalitis last year and was just discharged from the hospital.
I remember watching some documentary (I think it was If I Should Fall From Grace With God, dir Sarah Share in 2001, not Crock of Gold) and the way I remember it, it starts off with him in I think a bar and he is totally completely wasted. Not just wasted, it's like he hasn't been sober for years. He is just absolutely maundering on and on and his dad (I think) says, "He had a brilliant brain....still has....a few bilion brain cells later," tears in his eyes, and then it's like a smash-cut to him young and fiery singing the title track live and it's a total absolute gut punch.
It's so hard to pick a favourite song but his version of Waltzing Matilda is just so heartbreaking.

I listened to "Turkish Song of the Damned," because its sea-haunting worked its way into my writing, but around this time of year

I think it's a very similar phenomenon. He shaped so much of the damage of the world.
And a LOT of new variants of the claw machine meme.
I've mostly seen the ones captioned "FINALLY."

That stew sounds lovely! I hope you back feels better soon.

It's sort of like the opposite of losing a part of the landscape, more like a condemned building finally pulled down.
That stew sounds lovely! I hope you back feels better soon.
Thank you! Today my back feels better and my head hurts more. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I want a refund on it.
