I love things they told me not to like
I did not get decent sleep last night, but on the other hand my face does not appear to be doing anything hopelessly out of the ordinary for an underslept person, so I suppose I should take it. Have a couple of links and a complaint.
1. I wish it were possible to find transcripts of audio commentaries. They have been staple features of home video releases for decades. By default, I own quite a number, generally of movies I care about. I can't listen to them. I've tried. Like the overwhelming popularity of podcasts, it's one of the normal permutations of media that can still remind me that general society is not designed for my brain. It doesn't stop me wanting the information contained in the commentary tracks, which is not necessarily duplicated in the written work of the people who record them. I get that it doesn't qualify as an accessibility issue, but I still feel it shouldn't be so weird to want to read what a person who knows what they're talking about is saying. I always enjoy the essays that come with nice editions.
2. Courtesy of my other friendlist: what type of zoo enclosure should you be kept in? I was not actually aiming to be rated "open sea exhibit":
really big tank with 360 views. you can coexist just fine with other species – in fact you actually do better with them. the occasional diver or mermaid show is also welcome enrichment. lots of space to move around in and if you get bored you can probably eat one or two other inhabitants (i genuinely don't know what the staff do if that happens but it has to, right?). when you're feeling up to the crowds you can get real close to the glass and they'll go fucking bananas but if you just want some me time you can stay close to the middle where no one can tap you. this is the life.
I could definitely go for a small kelp forest right now.
3. I was charmed to run across this profile of Clint Conley, two-time bassist of Mission of Burma, motive force of Consonant, and mainstay of WCVB Boston's Chronicle. I saw him perform in that olive shirt he's wearing in the third photo. I don't believe I'm in the audience of that gig, but I would have been in the farthest back row, wearing earplugs, having a very good time. I miss live music so much.

I too really very much prefer to read rather than to watch and listen to, well, non-fiction, basically. I've lost track of the number of times I've thought, "Oooo, yes, tell me these things!" and clicked through to a video. Nope.
Sadly, the question about what kind of zoo enclosure I should be kept in makes me metaphorically yell, "Can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!" and run away. I am not unbearably surprised by your open-sea exhibit, however.

I am always amused by what quizzes reveal about the personality of the quiz maker.
Oh oops--I think you were talking about the overall concept (zoo enclosure) and not about the questions. My bad!

Thank you. It seems to have left a slight tide-mark of broken blood vessels courtesy of the low-dose daily aspirin which I am not thrilled about, but I am assured they should heal.

It’s incredibly frustrating. I prefer diagrams to how-to videos. I want transcripts for podcasts, too. I know some of them provide them, but not as many as I have been enthusiastically recommended.

Stay feral!

I mostly take these quizzes because I want to see what the answers are, not because I expect them to be even arguably accurate!

I do not know *how* I ended up with "interactive show" but probably answering "fuck you" to the question about choosing a fursona helped?

Thank you! It made me think of the central tank at the New England Aquarium and the seals that swim in and out of the harbor.

Whoa. Did you get rated a raptor that keeps trying to fly off its jesses or something?

I wanted a soccer ball full of meat for enrichment and I ended up in the ocean!
(I still want a soccer ball full of meat.)

I wonder if some of the commentaries might have close captioning to go with the audio track? (I suspect not, unfortunately)
That kelp forest looks neat! (I got the terrarium)

Thank you! I still have no idea what caused the initial swelling, but I will be just fine if it doesn't repeat.

Huh. I don't know—I don't ever remember seeing subtitles for commentary tracks included in the same directories as subtitles for the films themselves. I am also skeptical, unfortunately, but I suppose I could fire a couple of discs up and see. Thank you for the suggestion no matter what!

What kind of text and image do you get with the terrarium?

Lol I also ended up with open sea exhibit but (going by comments discussion below) not via the same route I think.

It's a big ocean! It can accommodate a lot!

1. Yesss, text transcripts are great (even if lossy or erroneous) for audio/video offerings. I can focus on audio for the duration of a scholarly conference panel--with little breaks for change of speaker, etc. It's lovely that podcasts work for many people, but I can't acclimate.

Thank you, still!

*typed-out fistbump*
(Why are transcripts so hard to come by?)

Oh ghod me too. I also would like transcripts of podcasts and especially youtube interviews, while we're at it. Everyone's like "Listen to the podcast!" and I try and it's still like fifty percent of it goes right out my ears. I am a creatures of text.
LOL, on the quiz I got "terrarium," which was like "a nice warm place where only the weird people come to look at you and you stare at them unblinkingly from far back but also as if you're going to leap at them by surprise," or something. Legit.

Thank you! It was!

I can do conversations, conventions, lectures, MST3K with friends. I can't do podcasts and I can't do audio commentaries and I am aggravated by how acceptable it seems to be not to provide written complements. I was able to find, like, fan transcripts for commentary tracks on TV I don't watch. That was interesting but unhelpful.

"Terrarium" seems to have been a popular answer in these comments. I bet it's the warmth and the non-interaction. And the vague sense of protective threat.

Thank you. That's true. I am inclined to assume that problems I have are not real problems.
