I love things they told me not to like

I did not get decent sleep last night, but on the other hand my face does not appear to be doing anything hopelessly out of the ordinary for an underslept person, so I suppose I should take it. Have a couple of links and a complaint.

1. I wish it were possible to find transcripts of audio commentaries. They have been staple features of home video releases for decades. By default, I own quite a number, generally of movies I care about. I can't listen to them. I've tried. Like the overwhelming popularity of podcasts, it's one of the normal permutations of media that can still remind me that general society is not designed for my brain. It doesn't stop me wanting the information contained in the commentary tracks, which is not necessarily duplicated in the written work of the people who record them. I get that it doesn't qualify as an accessibility issue, but I still feel it shouldn't be so weird to want to read what a person who knows what they're talking about is saying. I always enjoy the essays that come with nice editions.

2. Courtesy of my other friendlist: what type of zoo enclosure should you be kept in? I was not actually aiming to be rated "open sea exhibit":

really big tank with 360 views. you can coexist just fine with other species – in fact you actually do better with them. the occasional diver or mermaid show is also welcome enrichment. lots of space to move around in and if you get bored you can probably eat one or two other inhabitants (i genuinely don't know what the staff do if that happens but it has to, right?). when you're feeling up to the crowds you can get real close to the glass and they'll go fucking bananas but if you just want some me time you can stay close to the middle where no one can tap you. this is the life.

I could definitely go for a small kelp forest right now.

3. I was charmed to run across this profile of Clint Conley, two-time bassist of Mission of Burma, motive force of Consonant, and mainstay of WCVB Boston's Chronicle. I saw him perform in that olive shirt he's wearing in the third photo. I don't believe I'm in the audience of that gig, but I would have been in the farthest back row, wearing earplugs, having a very good time. I miss live music so much.

I'm glad your face is subsiding into its usual self. That sounded so very disconcerting to wake up to.

I too really very much prefer to read rather than to watch and listen to, well, non-fiction, basically. I've lost track of the number of times I've thought, "Oooo, yes, tell me these things!" and clicked through to a video. Nope.

Sadly, the question about what kind of zoo enclosure I should be kept in makes me metaphorically yell, "Can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!" and run away. I am not unbearably surprised by your open-sea exhibit, however.

That is a delightful kelp forest! And "open sea exhibit" seems very apt for you ;-)

I do not know *how* I ended up with "interactive show" but probably answering "fuck you" to the question about choosing a fursona helped?

I hear you on the choices for that quiz! The architecture question had me completely stumped because I do not want to live in any of these.

I am always amused by what quizzes reveal about the personality of the quiz maker.

Oh oops--I think you were talking about the overall concept (zoo enclosure) and not about the questions. My bad!

I got terrarium, which is funny given Damian Lewis' interview on the Late Show this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTtTvHK9VSA

I also got interactive show and I did pick a fursona, so WHO KNOWS what result did it. (Now that I've seen the total results, I feel that terrarium is the one I would have *wanted*, but oh well. As you said above, quizzes honestly say more about the designer than the person taking it.)

This quiz made me laugh, which earns it a high rating in my books. Also, it was the first time I've ever come across the timed answer and the free-form answer--those were fun. But man, its choices of entertainment!! What?! (Not to mention the architecture, which I complained about to [profile] pamaladean)

I tried again putting in very different answers and got an aviary :-)

The architecture question was easy for me because I do genuinely like looking at Victorian houses, though I don't think I'd like to live in one.

I did find the timed question really interesting! Especially with the warning up front. I haven't seen either of those things (and I've taken a lot of these quizzes!) and it added a fun dimension.

No, you're right (what an odd locution, now that I look at it), while running away yelling, I did look at the questions, and they certainly did not help to make me want to answer the quiz.

And yes, wow, the revelations inherent in quiz questions! Sometimes they are right on the surface, all quirky and naive or just specific; other times the questions seem bland but as one struggles with them, the nature behind them is revealed, mostly benignly but sometimes not.

It didn't occur to me at the time I picked it, but I have actually lived in a Victorian, though not an especially ornate one, plus divided into multiple apartments. A friend owns one further along the same street, and quirky is probably the best description.

I got big cat, which is bizarre as I was aiming for great ape.

I chose the victorian house too! Maybe that was enough to make us both attractions ;-)

I thought about choosing that! But worried it would rot before I got the meat out. (I chose legos)

Who knows how the quiz's internal gears work!

What did you put as your offering for the crocodile? (Or was it an alligator?)

This is the quiz that keeps on giving, because reading this comment, I once again burst out laughing. If I lived closer, I'd oblige ;-)
