Do you remember when we saw that thing that made us constant?
It turns out that what's wrong with one of my eyes since last night is an infection consequent to a corneal abrasion, for which I have been prescribed an ointment I hate at intervals that annoy me. For this much glop in my eye, I had better be able to see fairies.
(I sat on the front steps and blurrily read Markiyan Kamysh's Stalking the Atomic City: Life Among the Decadent and the Depraved of Chornobyl (2015/2022), which would be much less extraordinary if it were science fiction. "What do you need for your first trip? Nothing. Really—nothing at all. Take a flashlight, a knife, a few cans of food, a sleeping bag, a bag of rice, and a pack of lollipops. That's it. Of course, you can spend months researching the proper contents of a first aid kit and packing sleeping mats, flasks, multifunction tools, tents, and other tourist shit, but this keeps you from focusing on the most important thing. In abandoned towns, you have to rub your feet sore, drink tainted water, curse dead batteries, and save rice that seems to run out so quickly. It's much cooler, though, if you do this not because I told you to but just because you're a degenerate. Normal people have no business in a radioactive dump. Remember this.")

Any idea on how you abraded your cornea?! I hope you recover from the infection pronto.

I saw! I hope you are traveling safely as we speak.

Thank you! I have no idea: I experienced no eye trauma that evening that I had occasion to note and I hadn't spent the day in the woods, aggressively gardening, metalworking etc. My eye felt scratchy and was suddenly, dramatically bloodshot and hurt sufficiently overnight to give me difficulty sleeping and in the morning I made an appointment to be seen and then I had a diagnosis and antibiotics. The latter really are helping, though.

Thank you. It's not delighting me! The eye seems to be responding favorably, however, so I am hoping it keeps it up.

Ugh, had one of those (well, the corneal abrasion part) when I was twelve, and it sucked. I hope your eye recovers quickly!

Thank you! I agree with your twelve-year-old self!

Just don't tell us if you do, I hear they get nasty with mortals who admit to seeing them!
Also, owieee!

I carefully used the conditional!

What absolute arse runs this universe
It's like the exact opposite of a poem!
The books sounds almost hallucinatory.

It is. I recommend it highly.
