It's so much thriftier than mine
Thirty-six hours later, many of them spent on the phone with various representatives of the internet provider who tried to close a ticket on a problem they had not actually solved, we have internet again. I ran a lot of errands and read with the cats and ate the last of the curry over noodles and was relieved to realize when I woke up this morning that Hugh Laurie had not died in the night, because I had dreamed he had in one of those vivid, slightly delusional ways which persisted between bouts of sleep and I was reasonably upset about it. Now that I can look up trivia about famous people without resorting to a public library, I have discovered that his father was an Olympic rower. And now that our television works again, I am going to watch something on TCM.

Evidently, Hugh Laurie found his father's gold medal (coxless pairs) stuffed in a sock in a drawer.

The one was how I got to the other! Then I ended up reading a lot about Cambridge rowing in the 1930's.
There was a 2012 movie about two guys rowing double sculls for Britain in 1948, but I don't remember if there was much mention of other British rowers.
Nice cast. Ran Laurie and Jack Wilson do not seem to feature among the supporting.

At least the TV worked as a DVD player the night before!

I think that's delightful.

Thank you! It was a sort of tea-planting Gothic called Elephant Walk (1954) starring Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Finch, and Dana Andrews, and without really reminding me past the level of colonialism and elephants it has made me want to re-read a novel by Tanith Lee which is in storage! I am trying to figure out what to do about this last fact. But my life is definitely improved by the ability to stare at unimproving movies at weird hours of the night.
