We are called up to Portsmouth and it's many a weary mile

I keep having to be reminded that poppies are for Memorial as well as Armistice Day, but as they are both effectively festivals of the underworld, I really should remember. Having been traveling in the last few days, I saw far too many flag-waving billboards exhorting to support the troops. The dead are always easier to take care of.

And the troops are mostly a long way away and not allowed to speak against their orders.

*hugs* It is a very good photo. Thank you. It's harder to make a poppy into jingoistic nonsense patriotism sauce.

That's a beautiful photo of a complex flower, not a flattened paper symbol that got appropriated.

The center of this poppy looks like incense--also appropriate for remembering the dead.
