I had not realized until tonight how early exposure to The Blues Brothers (1980) teaches a person to recognize Nazi dogwhistles, but I was linked to this article about a pseudo-Celtic fascist-prop TV series in attempted development and as soon as I read that "our present filmmaker froths about the Globalist Multicultural Romans bringing African soldiers over to oppress the Britons," I heard Henry Gibson through a bullhorn: "White men, white women, the swastika is calling you . . . The Jew is using the Black as muscle against you." Illinois Nazis.

Not the same folks, but someone pointed out on twitter the other day that the casting of Denzel Washington as Macbeth doesn't make sense because there weren't Black people in Scotland.

One of my all time favorite films is Maqbool (2003) which sets the Macbeth story among gangsters in Mumbai who, after all, have the same sort of immorality, propensity to violence, and honor codes as nobility. The witches are corrupt cops with a fondness for horoscopes and desire to play one faction of mobsters off against another.

More naturalistic than most Bollywood films, the two musical numbers are diegetic, occurring at a religious festival and a wedding.
